So, first and foremost to make full use of an external hard disk on a computer, it has to be correctly connected, and then be detected and recognized. Wirelessness means that you don't rely on Internet connection because a physical USB or eSATA connection will enable you to copy, transfer, exchange data across an external HDD and a running machine!

That way you won't take off too much or too little.External hard disk, regarding its large capacity but low price nowadays, is still a popular choice for Windows and Mac users to store massive data, save backups and wirelessly transfer files from one computer to the other. I didn't see what the part number was of the drive, so I can't actually look it up for you, but what you may want to do is to wait until the dock arrives, look inside the slots of the dock to see what the connector there looks like and get the drive to look the same so it will connect.
If the drive is the smaller 2.5" format, that one board may not be visible because it's inside the case. That is the hardware controller for the drive. It is the one screwed directly to the drive and most of the time has a small flat cable from the board to the drive itself. There is one board that you do NOT want to remove. And where the USB cord is plugged in might also be removable to expose the "L" bracket connectors. I couldn't tell from the image you posted, but I think there is a plastic piece where the blue light is that looks like it could be removed. Those two connectors will connect to the dock. It's a bit hard to see from the picture, but basically you want to expose two "L" shaped brackets like this (The picture is from a 3.5" drive I have lying around, yours seems to be a 2.5" so it may be different): It seems the issue is from the frequent disconnecting without ejecting but I'm not sure what else to try. I know data recovery would seem to be my next step but I thought I'd reach out to see if anyone had any other suggestions/recommendations. I was working my way towards that over the next few days. Of course the files on their are not backed up. It did show up with Easeus twice but when I tried to search the disk it spontaneously dropped/disconnected after 2 - 3 minutes. Tried to manually force quit the fsck process from activity monitor but there is no fsck process running.ĭownloaded a couple of different recovery programs Recoverit and Easus and it's not recognized. Looked for it with Terminal list command but it doesn't show up Looked for it in Disk Utility but it doesn't show up. Tried it on another computer w/ same result The drive lights up and whirrs when connected and the light stays solid but I can't see the drive. It's got a micro usb connection that would fall out a lot.

I've got a Mid 2015 MacBook Pro running Monterey.Ī WD 1TB My Passport quit being recognized by the system after several times of inadvertently being unplugged without ejecting.
